The retail anti-theft security gate
June 2, 2025·Vista EAS
What an anti-theft gate is
An EAS gate is a transmitter-receiver pair at a store exit. It generates a defined electromagnetic field; tags or labels on merchandise resonate within it, and the receiver flags the response with an audible alert.
How it works
RF systems sweep around 8.2 MHz and look for a labelled coil resonating back. AM systems pulse a 58 kHz field and listen for the magnetostrictive ring of a hard tag in the silent gap.
Form factors
- Acrylic single-aisle for boutiques and pharmacies
- Metal-frame dual-aisle for supermarkets
- Floor-buried antennas where aesthetics rule
- Door-frame integrated for narrow doors
Questions before buying
